Product Description Successful businesswoman hires surrogate woman to have baby.
Amazon.com Laughter and hearty guffaws abound in this comical look at 37-year-old career woman Kate Holbrook's (30 Rock's Tina Fey) desperate attempts to have a baby. Never mind that she's not married and has never been involved in a serious relationship; Kate wants a baby and will stop at virtually nothing to get one. After failed attempts at broaching the concept of conception with first dates and trying artificial insemination with the help of a sperm bank, Kate finds out that her t-shaped uterus leaves her with only a one in a million chance of conceiving a child. Adoption doesn't work out and she's left with the distasteful option of hiring a surrogate mother. Enter Chaffee Bicknell's (Sigourney Weaver) surrogate service and her recommendation of the working-class Angie Ostrowiski (Saturday Night Live's Amy Poehler) who, with her common-law husband Carl (Dax Shepard), is just desperate enough to take on the job in order to make some money, and the stage is set for baby making. As fate would have it, Angie and Carl break up just after Angie announces she's pregnant and Angie ends up moving in with Kate. Unfortunately, the two are completely incompatible and what ensues is a hysterical struggle to coexist while clashing over everything from proper nutrition to stroller selection, hair dye, and delivery options. Further complicating matters is Kate's budding relationship with ex-lawyer and juice-store owner Rob (Greg Kinnear), who just happens to be morally opposed to the whole concept of surrogate parenting. Finally, there's the question of just how fully Angie embraces the virtue of honesty. It's the juxtaposition of opposing viewpoints--so boldly stated, humorously set, and blatantly exploited--that makes this witty comedy so darn funny. Expect graphic references, raunchy humor, and a whole lot of laughter. --Tami Horiuchi

Well written film, just lose your preconceptions (no pun intended) June 27, 2010 L. B. (USA) The first time I saw this film I was a little disappointed because I was expecting a Saturday Night Live style comedy, which this is not. When I watched it a second time, i appreciated this for what it is... a comedy with really funny writing. The acting is great, but they rely on the writing (how a real actor works) and do not try to trump the script... although they are really brilliant comedians. I really like this film, makes me laugh every time. Just appreciate it without expecting Saturday Night live style humor.
Should be required viewing for all potential parents May 2, 2010 S.A. (Southeastern MI USA) This movie did not get the acclaim it deserved as a hilarious romp with unforgettable characters. Tina Fey is perfect, of course. But Amy Poehler, Greg Kinnear, Sigourney Weaver, Dax Shepherd and Steve Martin provide moments of hysteria and unforgettable lines as well. The actresses who play the grandmother and sister do great work as well. A must for all Tina Fey/Amy Poehler fans, but it is a great comedy that any parent would also enjoy. Cameos by lots of SNL alums/current castmembers as well. Good pace, great musical score. Loved it.
Hilarious!!!! April 10, 2010 Littletpot (Mexico) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This movie is hilarious!! I watched it over and over because I couldn't stop laughing. Amy Poehler is supposed to be a low class woman who's been hired by Tina Fey to be her surrogate, but although the director tries to convey Amy in a trashy way, she's just to cute to be trashy. I love Amy in Parks and Recreation and after watching this movie, I love her even more.
Not even 1/2 as good as commercials suggested! February 18, 2010 D. Perricelli-gulli (EAST COAST) I remember seeing the commercial for this movie and saying "I Have to see that". I finally got around to renting it and I was sooooooooo disappointed! These 2 women were so funny on SNL that I was expecting belly laugh after belly laugh. WRONG! The writers/directors should have taken advantage of the comedy duo and made the movie a real 'pee in your pants' flick. I waited and waited for the jokes but they rarely came. Go rent "The Hangover" if you want a GREAT comedy.
Great Movie, Great Price February 10, 2010 Rachel A. Lucas Very funny movie, at a great price. I was amazed that it arrived in only 3 days.
